Are we poisoning our dogs

Are we unknowingly poisoning our dogs?

diffusers poison

I’m sure we all have some form of scent distribution in our homes. I mean with dogs its kind of an essential. But did you know that certain oils in diffusers are actuallt poisoning our dogs ?

As essential oils continue to gain popularity for their natural healing properties, more and more people are turning to diffusers to spread the fragrant oils throughout their homes. However, what many pet owners may not realise is that the use of diffusers can be extremely toxic to dogs.

Additionally, dogs have a much stronger sense of smell than humans, and diffusers can overwhelm their senses, causing discomfort and stress. So it’s important to use caution with diffusers around pets and to seek advice from a veterinarian if there are any concerns about their use.

The dangers of diffusers for dogs stem from the fact that essential oils are highly concentrated substances. While they may be beneficial in small doses for humans, pets have a much different response to these substances. When diffused into the air, the oils can be ingested by pets through inhalation and through the skin.

One of the most toxic essential oils for dogs is tea tree oil, which is commonly used in diffusers. This oil can cause respiratory distress, vomiting, and skin irritation in dogs. Other oils that can be harmful to pets include pennyroyal, eucalyptus, and cinnamon.

When these oils are diffused into the air, dogs can inhale them and become sick. Diffusers can also cause respiratory irritation if the oils are not properly diluted, or if the diffuser is used in a small, poorly ventilated room.

The effects of these oils on dogs can range from mild irritation to severe toxicity.

Dogs may experience seizures, organ damage, respiratory problems, skin irritations, neurological damage and even death from exposure to diffused essential oils.

To prevent harm to pets

Pet owners should be cautious about using diffusers in their homes if they have dogs. If diffusers are used, they should be placed in a room that is off-limits to pets, and diffusing should be done for short periods of time. Room ventilation should also be ensured to prevent an accumulation of essential oils in the air.

Pet owners can also consider using alternative methods to spread pleasant scents throughout their home. Candles and incense may be safer options, but still, should be used with caution. Natural air fresheners such as lemon and baking soda may also be a viable choice.

While diffusers may be a popular way to spread essential oils, pet owners should be cautious about using them around dogs. The use of diffusers can cause varying degrees of toxicity to dogs and can even be fatal in extreme cases. By taking precautions and exploring alternative options, pet owners can ensure their furry friends stay healthy and happy in the family home.
