The Bond between Dogs & Children

dogs and children

Peanut butter and jelly. Macaroni and cheese. Life is full of amazing combinations, but few are more life changing than the camaraderie of a pet and a child!

I feel a bit sorry for myself here because I didn’t really get to grow up with a dog when I was a little one. It was only when my family moved to South Africa, that we finally got a dog and I believe that’s why I’m now a crazy dog lady.

I believe growing up with a dog can be a wonderful experience for children. Dogs can teach children important values such as responsibility, empathy, and kindness.

Children who have a dog to care for are often given tasks such as feeding, grooming, and walking the dog, which helps them to learn the importance of responsibility and the rewards of caring for another living creature. Additionally, spending time with a dog can teach children to be more empathetic and compassionate towards animals and other people.

Having a dog can be great for the child’s and the dog’a physical and mental health.

Studies have shown that spending time with dogs can reduce stress and anxiety levels, improve mood, and increase physical activity. Children who have a dog are also less likely to develop allergies and asthma later in life, as exposure to dogs can help strengthen their immune systems.

A dog can be great friends for children.

Dogs are loyal, affectionate, and non-judgmental, making them great friends for children who may struggle to make friends with other people. Dogs can also provide a sense of security and comfort to children who may be feeling anxious or upset. So many children  that experience learning and social difficulties benefit immensely from the relationship with their dog. Often sharing stories with their dogs that they wouldn’t with a human.

Growing up with a dog can be a lot of fun!

Dogs love to play and can provide hours of entertainment for children. They also make great adventure buddies, and going for walks or exploring new places with a dog can be an exciting and rewarding experience for both children and adults. What child doesn’t need more outside time these days.

There are so many reasons why growing up with a dog can be great for children, from teaching them important values to improving their physical and mental health, and providing them with a loyal and loving companion.

What we need to always keep in mind is to supervise our child and dogs interactions. Making sure both the dog and child are safe and comfortable.
